We're the Stanford Mendicants, Stanford's original a cappella group. We've been serenading and belting harmonies on campus since 1963. While the group’s size, repertoire and attire has certainly changed over the years, at the core remains a group of friends who love creating and performing great music for our fans, students, and Stanford Alumni.
To help fund our musical endeavors, we’ve been fortunate enough to receive the support of the school and you, the student body, for the last few years. Funds from Special Fees (now Annual Grants) help us fund our many campus shows, from NSO and O-Show at the very beginning of the year to our Spring show at the end. These funds allow us to pay for venues, sound equipment and a sound engineer, and the myriad other small costs associated with putting on any live production. We’ve always made our shows free to students and intend to continue doing so.
This funding also allows us to create professional-quality recordings of original arrangements by group members. Tracking, editing, mixing and mastering 17+ voices on a dozen tracks is an amazing but expensive adventure, which we would not be able to do without your support. In addition to funding, we work hard throughout the year earning money at gigs to do our part to pay for our year’s activities. We love having the opportunity to bring some Mendicant joy and song to audiences around the world.
