Solar Car is in year 2 of our bi-annual project cycle. We have recently finished constructing the carbon fiber body of our car over spring break and will be racing in Australia in October 2017! Between now and then, we will be building a fully operational solar powered vehicle. This includes fabricating our solar array, battery packs, steering, suspension, roll cage, electronics, and a lot more. We are really excited about the upcoming race and are aiming to take back the crown of being the top undergraduate solar car team and top team from North America. We won this distinction in 2013, but lost to the University of Michigan in 2015, whose team operates on a substantially larger budget than ours. However, what we lack in finances, our team makes up in engineering knowledge and execution.[HTML_REMOVED][HTML_REMOVED]Our request covers the remaining build costs for our car as well as various race expenses such as food and lodging. Since the race ends in October, our requests include projected expenses for the beginning of the 2018-2019 cycle as well. [HTML_REMOVED][HTML_REMOVED]Our project is open to all Stanford students and we encourage everyone to check us out and join if you like what you see! We have many projects and roles for engineers (mechanical, composites (carbon fiber), electrical, computer science) and for those interested in media, public relations, and business operations. We hope that you continue to see the importance of the Solar Car Project and the valuable experience we make available to Stanford Students!
