|Previous Special Fee amount||New request|
|Amount per Undergrad||$2.32 per year|
Cardinal Calypso, Stanford's premiere* steel pan ensemble, brings the music of steel pan and the culture of Trinidad & Tobago to Stanford and the wider Bay Area community. Our songs, all arranged by members of the group, range from classic calypso music to jazz to modern hits -- and you may have heard us jamming out at our annual Spring Show, our jazz concert with Andy Narell, Dance Marathon, informal weekends on the Oval, Admit Weekend Frosh Pick-Up, Faces, Arrillaga Nights, or a whole host of other student events on campus.
This is our first year requesting an annual grant, and we're hoping to use the grant to expand the number of steel pans and drums we own so we can open the group up to even more students next year! Right now, our limiting factor during auditions is the number of instruments we have for people to play; with your support, next year we'll be able to take our largest class of new pan players yet! We're also asking for money to tune our pans, bring guest artists to campus to lead workshops open to all Stanford students, host more cultural events, and generally increase our ability to share our music at Stanford and beyond.
If you like smiling, dancing, student music, and ~sweet, tropical vibes~, vote YES for Cardinal Calypso!
